Cerebral Palsy: Learn More
Cerebral palsy may be congenital or develop after birth. Research shows that several of its causes are preventable or treatable, including head injury, jaundice, and rubella (German measles). Signs of cerebral palsy usually appear before age three. Affected children may be slow to develop normal motor skills, such as the ability to roll over, sit up, crawl, and smile. Doctors diagnose cerebral palsy by testing a child's motor skills and reflexes, examining their medical history, and using a variety of specialized tests.
